(3-Amino-13-(4-amino-6-c a r b o x y5-m e t h y l p y r imidin-2-yl)-propionic acid, designated compound II in the former report,'' is produced by degradation of an amino acid residue containing (3-lactam in the bleomycin molecule .2-4) The absolute configuration of the asymmetric carbon in this part of the bleomycin molecule has been determined by X-ray analysis of IIdiamide hydrobromide.
